She was a Magna cum Laude graduate in Chemistry at Roanoke College before attending and graduating from the University of Vermont Medical School with honors. She completed residency training in both General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery, in which she maintains Board Certification.

She was on staff at several area hospitals as a Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeon with an active practice for many years.

In 2002, she opened the Wisconsin Vein Center and MediSpa, and as that became a successful and time-consuming venture, she left her Cardiac Surgical practice in 2004. She serves on the editorial boards of Vein Therapy News and Aesthetics News Today, and has been published extensively in a variety of medical and trade publications.
